Jazz Guitar Chord Licks #4 - Lenny Breau Walkup

In today’s Jazz Guitar Chord Lick lesson, we'll be checking out a fun walkup over Bb7 and Eb7 in the style of the late, great Lenny Breau.

Since there is such a wide stretch between the two voices in this lick, you will need to play this phrase with your fingers, or by using your pick on the low notes and your middle/ring finger on the upper notes.

This is a tricky little lick, but once you get it down it can really add a nice Bluesy flavor to your chord solos and chord melody arrangements.

Here are a few points that I bring out in the video lesson that you can take and apply to your practice and performance to allow you to create jazz guitar chord licks like this in your solos and comping.

* The chromatic walkup from D to F which implies the chords Dm7b5-Eb7-Edim7-Bb7/F

* How full the chord licks sounds even though only two notes are being used at any given time

* The blues scale sitting on top of the moving bass notes in order to keep the sound of the tune in line with the lick

* That this lick could be used as a turnaround or over the opening 3 bars of a Bb Blues Progression
